This approach does not rely on programmer defined algorithms but on the same processes that the brain uses for training pattern recognition. Experimentation in this field was done back in the 80's and 90's but the hardware was costly to get a reasonable level of intelligence. They had found that when an artificial neural network was used for the expert system of proposing medical treatment for example, the neural network made the same percentage of errors that actual medical experts made but the specific errors were different ones. Artificial Neural Network hardware may make a comeback now that hardware is so much cheaper. I would think that new AI technology would incorporate multiple solution paradigms. Obviously, the world will need to evaluate whether or not the AI solution actually reduces risks. We will not be able to evaluate this with just a few examples but over many examples. Hiring people to perform monotonous tasks can lead to hypnotic like trances that prevent them from accomplishing the task they have been assigned. If we ever get to the place where humans can adequately "supervise" AI and provide feedback to it for continuous improvement, we might be on the right path.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11044727680266134476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5917370795399342432.post-20181087678450061922019-03-23T07:59:11.063-05:002019-03-23T07:59:11.063-05:00Wonderful blog! In fact, today the news analysts have been going haywire on the fact that unemployment claims went up this week...for the first time in 3 weeks. I wish more people would understand that each week, data like this is going to go up or go down, that it's not a significant trend unless you have 6-8 weeks decreasing continuously. It's like flipping a coin. You will get heads (the result goes up) or you will get tails (the result goes down). The odds of getting 6 or 8 heads in a row is very low. Unfortunately, many CEO's don't understand this any better. They want reasons why this month's profits were lower than last month's. "Normal variation" is not an acceptable answer for many of them.Business Compassionate Curmudgeonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03650190858541738625noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5917370795399342432.post-55621990244528660802010-10-13T16:13:13.976-05:002010-10-13T16:13:13.976-05:00Insightful comments...as a professional who sifts ...Insightful comments...as a professional who sifts through large volumes of raw information for government reports, it is difficult to provide analysis juxtaposing short term trends in the context of megatrends merely for the fact that decision-makers are concerned about the short term effects/results of their plan or strategy. Hopefully, CEOs take the long-term view.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
