Alignment is Hard

We met and reviewed our achievements. Amazingly, the departments achieved most of their goals, while the corporation only achieved one goal. That means one of a few things:

1) the departmental goals were not aggressive enough
2) the departmental goals, though appearing to be aligned, had no relation to the corporate goals
3) the departmental goals were aggressive enough, and aligned but there was a bigger factor that influences the corporate goals than the aggregate of the departmental goals.

That's our challenge for 2010: to make sure we don't have any of these three conditions.
